Heirloom Garden Update

Every year we have several varieties that far out-produce other crops.  It's rarely the same each year and we plant quite a few different varieties.

All of our gardens are grown in raised beds because of the gophers and rabbits.  It's really frustrating but it works for us.  Each new bed is filled 1/3-1/2 with aged horse manure, then our own soil recipe.  The ground here is pretty rocky so maybe the beds are the best option anyway.

Check out the progression of these heirloom veggies.  This bed contains Painted Mountain Corn, Glass Gem Corn, Ronde De Nice Squash, Early Scarlet Globe Radish, Sage and Nasturtium.

We've already harvested a few radish and Ronde De Nice Squash from this bed.  It's amazing!

Our garden is producing HUGE zucchini.  I usually don't let them get this big but they hide in the beds.

Jojo loves to inspect our garden goodies.  They smell delicious!!!  Picture below are Black Beauty Zucchini, Yellow Scallop squash, Jalapeno, San Marzano Tomato, Cherokee Puple Tomato and Black Krim tomato.  All grown from heirloom seeds on our Heirloom Seed Homestead!

Our Bucket garden is growing nicely.  This is one of several buck gardens on our homestead.  You can find out more in our post Starting a Bucket Garden.

This is a GREAT year for zucchini and Peppers!

I hope you enjoyed a sneak peak at our gardens.  See ya next time!
