Harvesting Garlic Scapes

It's time to start harvesting Garlic from our garden.  Know what that means? SCAPES!

In case you're curious, a Garlic Scape is the bud of the garlic.  These usually appear in June and are harvested to encourage bulb growth.

Garlic scapes taste just like garlic and can be used in place of garlic.  They're delicious!

I usually eat garlic scapes right away.  However, if you have too many at once you can store them in a container for up to 2 weeks.

There are quite a few delicious recipes available for garlic scapes.  Today I'm going to sautee a few in butter and then mix in cream cheese to make a topping for pork chops.

Instructions:
Chop garlic scapes and basil
Sautee in butter until browned
Mix into 8 ounces of softened cream cheese

*This can be used as a dip or topping*
